Project Description
The Stack house
The group of posh high-end residential villas, located in Pune, is influenced by the legendary Wadas of Maharashtra. The local architectural planning of "Wadas," which is a tremendous historical inspiration, is converted into modular design. Adaptation of modular architecture and linear planning creates flexible layouts as per varied plot sizes without altering elevation designs. This modular system allows modifications and additions that broadens the scope for customization.
The entire program is created on the ground level and is set out in four separate volumes that are readily visible from the outside. The four volumes discretely rise above the ground plane, enhancing long views, confirming greater seclusion, and increasing ventilation potential. The four modules are connected by joining pieces, allowing for horizontal communication at a lower height, and have varying heights in response to the requirements of the interior program.
The envelope is treated consistently across the four volumes, being highly closed in the longitudinal direction to create the utmost level of privacy with the two adjacent plots. The main height slopes down to the entrance road and internal landscape. Large glass systems cover the entire elevation, defining the entrance.
A sustainable environment is created within the house. With the use of solar panels, rainwater harvesting, passive natural stack and cross ventilation, as well as the building facade generate passive cooling to lower internal temperature with the selection of high-end exterior cladding concrete panels.
Minimalism design flows from the exterior to the interior and adds modesty to the house. The design conveys simplicity and blends with basic geometric forms and shapes, graceful and elegant colors and textures with the use of simple materials and patterns of light and space. This home is meant to be relaxing, contemplative, visually balanced, and appealing.
