Exterior Remodeling $150,000 and Over: Merit
When your client designs packaging for Apple, it makes sense he wants his home’s exterior to be both modern and memorable. What he owned—a boring ranch house with a three-car garage—was neither.
Enter CASE Design/Build to make changes small and large. Out went the wooden garage doors, to be replaced by aluminum ones with a horizontal theme. And in came a soffit with LED lighting “that gave it some oomph on the top,” company president Jim Kabel says.
The steel canopy helps draw attention from the garage while lengthening the façade. The commercial-grade composite siding was made a bit more noticeable by bumping out the left side of the garage to create a space to hide all the plumbing utilities.
In back, an old fireplace chimney that started wide and narrowed toward the top was reframed with metal to support a square, stacked stone chimney. This eliminated the need for interior work.
Project Description
FROM THE FIRM:
The homeowners of this 1970’s suburban ranch home had modernized their home’s interior to a more minimal, modern style and wanted to apply the aesthetic to the home’s facade. Their goal was to completely transform the exterior, upgrading its blah, pseudo-Spanish ranch style to a bold modern aesthetic. The main objectives were to abandon the arches at the front porch, create a clearly defined entryway with a strong sense of architecture, and give the home more curb appeal with new garage doors and a mix of modern materials such as aluminum, glass and flush-profile siding.
