Think about how many times you’ve had your hands full and needed to open a cabinet door to throw away trash. A drawer that opens with the nudge of a knee is a great solution for this issue. Though it does come at a premium price, you may have some clients who are willing to splurge on the upgrade--especially if you have one displayed in your showroom. “I didn’t sell or think about one until we installed it,” says remodeler Ty Melton, owner of Melton Design Build, in Boulder, Colo. “Seeing it is worth a thousand words.”

Melton’s clients who have opted for this are upscale consumers with families, or empty nesters who want the dream kitchen they didn’t have when their kids lived in the house. His showroom display is a Rev-A-Shelf trash unit equipped with Blum hardware. Two of his cabinet suppliers offer it as an upgrade to their existing trash-can drawers. The installation requires a 110v outlet.
