By Nina Patel. These trailers aren't for sale or rent -- they're for giving away. Remodeler Mark Sass assigns his carpenters 14-foot enclosed trailers to attach to their trucks for tools and equipment. If they stay at the company for three years, he gives them the trailers.
Sass says this program works on several levels. It's a perk that keeps carpenters at the company. Also, they take good care of the trailer because they know they will eventually own it. Sass says spending $3,000 on each trailer is his way of showing his employees he is willing to invest in them.
When field staff start at the company, Sass has them sign an agreement that defines the terms to prevent misunderstandings. Those who stay on the job continue to use their trailers on the job. "It's a reward for working to grow the company and themselves," Sass says.
