Think you're pretty handy with a drywall knife? Trim-Tex wants to see you prove it. The drywall accessories manufacturer has announced that it's 10th annual Drywall Artist of the Year contest is accepting entries. The program highlights exceptional drywall artists to help increase recognition of the skill the trade requires. The contest challenges participants to enter their best "drywall masterpieces" that use Trim-Tex beads exclusively.

“There’s no creativity left in drywall,” Trim-Tex president Joe Koenig told products editor Lauren Hunter when she visited the Chicago-area manufacturing facility in 2010. “Now it’s all about who can slap up the board the cheapest. We’re fighting to change that mentality.” Koenig says Trim-Tex is "exceptionally excited" about the contest's 10th anniversary and looks forward to the challenge of selecting this year's winner.

The Reveal 90-degree corner bead is among the newest Trim-Tex products that contest entrants will have at their disposal, along with bullnose, chamfer, and other decorative edges. The Reveal 90-degree corner bead creates clean, crisp corner detailing giving the look of layered drywall without the added work.

Of course, a lot of layered drywall will be used in contest entries. The 2014 winner, Bernie Mitchell, showcased his artful use of Trim-Tex along with his ability to create drywall mud sculptures. His work is featured at the top of this article and below. Entries for the Drywall Artist of the Year contest are welcome from around the world. The winner will receive a $1,000 Trim-Tex product credit, about $500 in drywall tools and accessories, and a two-night hotel stay and round trip airfare to Chicago where Trim-Tex is based. Entries will be accepted through January 31, 2016 with the winner announced in February. Learn more, including entry details at trim-tex.com.
