In a recent study, the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) combined member company information with third-party sources (trade magazine reports, government data, industry association data, and leading research studies) to create a comprehensive snapshot of the cabinet market. Using a variety of sources allows the association to begin providing an annual report about the cabinet industry. Previous market data was only available every two to three years.
The new study includes input from the KCMA’s monthly Trend of Business (TOB) report, which incorporates data from 82 companies. Close to half of the TOB participating companies reported annual sales of $10 million or less with 11% reporting sales exceeding $100 million. “Lacking a perfect, single source, we believe that this methodology and definition of the market size provides the most timely and best estimate for the U.S. wood-based, residential cabinet market,” said KCMA president Greg Stoner in a press release. July’s TOB reported a 2.8% decrease in overall cabinet sales compared to July 2010. The highest decrease came in semi-custom sales, which decreased 5.1%.
