Construction pros will see the famousOwens Corning mascot on more products soon, thanks to the manufacturer’s relationships with two other building products brands. Early in 2013, Owens Corning began a partnership with Werner Ladder on a new insulated attic ladder. In June, the company announced its acquisition of mineral wool manufacturer Thermafiber.
“The acquisition of Thermafiber is an outstanding addition for Owens Corning and our customers,” says Joe Ochoa, vice president and general manager of Owens Corning’s Engineered Insulation Systems. “Mineral wool insulation adds to our product portfolio and helps us to provide access to high-temperature commercial building applications.”
Thermafiber insulation comprises up to 90% recycled content and is noncombustible, inorganic, and mold resistant. Beyond insulation, the material also provides fire protection and sound control, and the product line spans commercial, residential, and industrial markets. The acquisition includes a 145,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Indiana.
With a residential focus, Owens Corning’s partnership with Werner Ladder led to the development of the Energy Seal Attic Ladder featuring Owens Corning R-5 Pink insulation as a component in the product’s door structure. Weather-stripping around the frame helps eliminate 60% of air leakage. Werner says the Energy Seal Attic Ladder is five times more energy efficient than standard attic ladder systems. The ladder is available online and at select Home Depot stores across the country.
