Purchase orders aren't exactly commonplace for smaller remodeling companies, but according to Paul Morse of Morse Constructions in Somerville, Mass., they should be. "If you want to be as successful as a $10 million company, then run your business like one," he says.

Morse began using this purchase order form because he found that his field crew was spending too much time traveling to and from the lumberyard, costing the company money. Now, Morse's office won't authorize purchases until a completed purchase order arrives via fax from the field. "Not only has this cut out a tremendous number of trips to the yard, it has also made us more organized," Morse says. "We're planning ahead more." Click here to view the sample form in PDF format.
