The National Center for Construction Education & Research’s Build Your Future construction education initiative is hosting its seventh annual Careers in Construction Month this October, which aims to increase public awareness the of construction trades and inspire future professionals to join training programs.
Forty states, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington D.C. have all filed proclamation requests, marking the highest-ever participation for the observance. Throughout the month of October, schools contractors and other organizations will partner with BYF on the local level to host events and activities to introduce students to construction careers.
BYF has also launched a new education initiative, Discover More, focused on the“influencers” in childrens’ lives, including parents and educators. At the initiative website, discover.byf.org, users can access success stories, fact blogs, and other construction industry resources. Three new video series are also available - Get Started in Construction, Build Your Future Street Series, and Discover Success.
The celebration also includes NCCEER and BYF’s the fifth annual “I BUILT THIS!” video contest, which invites secondary and postsecondary career and technical education students and instructors to submit videos of their construction projects. Categories include individual and group project awards at the secondary and postsecondary level, as well as a People’s Choice award voted on by the public.
