Pantone Color Institute announced its highly-anticipated 2017 Color of the Year: Greenery. Greenery is a "fresh and zesty yellow-green shade" that will allow people to "take a deep breath, oxygenate, and reinvigorate," Laurie Pressman, vice president of Pantone Color Institute, said today during a webinar about Greenery.
"[Greenery] speaks to a growing desire to nourish and energize our minds," Pressman adds. It reflects the public's desire to "express, explore, and experiment."
Pantone picked Greenery in part because of the environmental movement that's been happening the last decade. The public's desire to eat organically, use all-natural products, recycle, and preserve precious natural resources all contributed to Pantone's choice. Pressman says that Pantone has noticed a trend in people wishing to "untether from their devices," reconnect with nature and each other, and "nourish" their bodies and emotional well-being. Green has been proven to help the heart relax and to slow the production of stress hormones, making it the perfect color to "[symbolize] the age we're living in."
Want to take a stab at using Greenery in your next project? Never fear: It may be a bright, bold color, but "it doesn't need to be overwhelming," Pressman stresses. "You can use it as an accent; it doesn't have to be a full-on statement."
For home design, Pressman suggests that it is a great shade for bringing the outside in. Floor-to-ceiling windows that show off neighboring trees, living walls (such as moss walls), or using it as paint color are all great ways to incorporate Greenery into your remodel. Pantone also offers 10 different color palettes that all incorporate Greenery to help you perfectly coordinate every color in your project.
