Behr Paint announced Back To Nature, a restorative, meadow-inspired green, as its 2020 Color of the Year, according to a news release. Behr said the biophilic shade "imparts a fresh sense of vitality" influenced by "our innate desire to connect with nature."
“As we look ahead to a new decade, Back To Nature encourages us to reengage with the natural world, which we know can have a real, positive impact on our well-being,” Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr, said in a public statement. “Everyone has a different way of engaging with nature. Whether you’re biking on a forest path, canoeing on a lake or walking on the beach, green is prevalent in nearly every outdoor landscape—it is easily nature’s favorite color."
Back To Nature was selected because it captures "the emotion of wilderness landscapes and indoor gardens, while being subtle enough to serve as a new neutral," according to Behr. The yellow-based green can serve as a backdrop to satisfy the desire for a soft landing at homes and Behr said the color "reflects societal trends towards embracing the outdoors." The paint manufacturer said the color has universal appeal and "willingness to coexist with other hues."
Back To Nature was selected as the cornerstone of Behr Paint's 2020 Color Trends palette, an annual color forecast based on global color trend research across residential and commercial settings. Woelfel said Back To Nature can work well with simple or maximal styling, whether the goal is transforming kitchen cabinetry with fresh and unique feeling neutrals or making spaces feel more open and airy.
