I Build America

To celebrate the construction industry's importance to infrastructure and the economy, I Build America, an organization dedicated to promoting the value of the construction industry, is declaring Sept. 16-20 as the second annual Construction Appreciation Week.

“Construction positively impacts the lives of Americans every day, from the buildings we work in, to the hospitals where we receive health care to the roads we travel on and the homes we live in,” said Susanna Jakubik, marketing manager for I Build America. “It’s only fitting that a week be set aside to celebrate and recognize the millions of men and women who have chosen construction as their career path and how this work creates a wide variety of jobs across the United States.”

The construction industry has more than 680,000 employers with seven million employees and creates $1.3 billion worth of structures each year, according to the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Construction Appreciation Week aims to inspire a national conversation about construction and how it enhances lives in America. The wide range of the week's activity include social media campaigns and national contests.

I Build America is promoting two social media hashtags, #ThanksForBuilding and #ConstructionAppreciationWeek, for the week and two national contests, The Building America Together Contest and The Thanks for Building Contest.

I Build America, launched in 2016, is an image-building movement dedicated to showing the value that men and women in construction bring. The organization's purpose is to "inspire the next generation of young people to work in the industry by sharing the story of American construction."
