When is a replacement window as important as a 5,000-square-foot custom home? When you're a Baine Contracting client. “I got my start installing replacement windows,” says owner Michael Baine (standing, in red). “Now we do some of the finest custom homes on the Jersey Shore. Some of our biggest jobs actually came from changing a window, and I just want to make sure I don't lose sight of where I came from.”

Baine says he works closely with architects to bring in large jobs, and takes on replacement work to keep crews busy and the cash flowing. Last year the company completed five substantial new homes ranging from 3,600 square feet to 5,200 square feet.

“We've seen a trend of clients wanting homes that are sized right for them — some inland homes are just way too big,” Baine says, referencing 18,000-square-foot and larger homes he's seen going up. “They're just a big box of air conditioning. [A lot of our] clients are building their second homes, and they want to establish a place where their kids and grand-kids can visit. It's easy for three or four generations to feel comfortable in a home the size that we build, and it's something that we've put our signature on and are proud to offer.”
