Making it big in the remodeling world is no easy task. Granted, there is no simple way to quantify the vast number of ways industrious folk seek to earn a living by fixing and improving existing homes. Nevertheless, several statistical snapshots, which you can find here, form a strong image of where our industry stands.
Show me the money. We are an industry dominated by small business: Nationwide, around 70% of firms earn less than a million dollars; around 23% earn less than $100,000. Working upwards, somewhere around 10% to 12% of all companies bring home more than $3 million dollars, and a rarefied 2% earn more than $10 million. Compare those national figures with the top earners listed here: Nearly 30% of the firms here earn more than $10 million, setting the stage for nothing less than “Wow” when you see those on the REMODELING's list of top firms. We cut off the lists at $250,000 in total remodeling revenue—a starting point that solidly shows that if you've made it here, you're in it for the long run now.

More than the money. It’s not all about money, though. While success on the lists is defined by revenues earned by remodeling work, we ask for a lot more information on the application. That information, summarized in the list of charts below, reveals some of what is necessary to succeed. Yes, it reflects the industry's collective business savvy, but it also reveals incredible generosity, dedication and ingenuity—the heart of small-business enterprise and key ingredients for success.

Remodelers aren’t easily defined; they don’t subscribe to any one, single association or governing body. The industry is as independent as the vastly diverse population it serves. But that’s exactly the beauty of the professionals whose success we celebrate here. The entire staff behind Remodeling offers its sincere congratulations to all the firms on the 2019 REMODELING lists.
