Trusted. It’s a word Tod Colbert doesn’t take lightly. In fact, it’s the core of his firm’s value system.
“That value system goes to how we treat each other and how we treat our employees,” says the Weather Tight founder and president. “Having a stable, happy workforce makes for a stronger, more stable company.”
The system is rooted in the TRUSTED acronym: trustworthy, reliable, united, supportive, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and determined. These words help define the character of the firm's employees, the way it treats its customers and staff, and its benefits package and bonus system.
In addition to health insurance, a 401K, and holiday pay, the company offers paid time off points that can be used for various reasons, including maternity or paternity leave and illness. Points are earned based on longevity, and the value of the point depends on when they are used and how much notice is given.
Bonuses are based on targets for each department, which are then broken down into team and individual goals. The better the team does, the bigger the pool becomes. As the employees exceed goals, the bonus pool grows and each person’s performance awards them a greater share.
“We are competing for employees in home improvement but also in the general market, and we’re looking for the best employees,” Colbert says. “People who perform at a high level are rewarded because as they earn more rewards points and in return they send more value to the bottom line, so it’s a win-win.”
