Amazon fired the first shot in this smart home technology war in 2014 when they announced their Amazon Echo; this November, Google will return fire with the release of the new Google Home. Forbes staffer Aaron Tilley takes a look at how the two devices compare in terms of hardware, software, and platform.

Both devices wake up by simply speaking to them and are able to to integrate with other devices in the home. While their devices maybe different, Tilley points out that the end game for both Amazon and Google is the same.

Rather, they would rather have other hardware makers to incorporate their voice services into as many devices as possible. That will help Amazon and Google get their virtual assistant and services out into the world. Both companies are working hard on this front.
