    MotionSense
Advanced sensors built into new MotionSense faucets can detect movement in two sensing zones. In addition to placing hands or an object below the faucet to trigger the "Ready Sensor" at the base, a "Wave Sensor" on top of the faucet can start and stop the flow of water with a simple hand motion. With the hands-free technology, users can all but eliminate the need to touch the faucet. MotionSense also helps users save water, since it only comes on when an object is within the sensing zone, and will turn off automatically if the water is accidentally left running. MotionSense is initially available on the Arbor pulldown kitchen faucet in chrome, oil-rubbed bronze, and Spot Resist Stainless finishes. Available in Fall 2012.

    Reflex System
Get a better range of motion from kitchen faucets outfitted with the new Reflex System. The system features an ultra-flexible hose for better maneuverability, as well as a ball-swivel joint between the hose and the wand, which lets the wand move as easily as the user's hand and wrist. The hose length has also been enhanced, putting clean-up and other tasks around the sink, such as filling pots and watering plants, within easy reach. Smooth retraction means the hose won't kink or catch inside the faucet, and the sprayer will dock securely when not in use. Find the Reflex System on a range of Moen pulldown faucets, including Benton and Haysfield styles available at Home Depot.

    Twist Handheld Shower
The convenience of a handshower is enhanced with Moen's Twist design. By swiveling the showerhead around the handle with the push of a thumb pad, users can take advantage of four different spray patterns. The patterns include Immerse for a full-coverage, soaking spray; Soothe with a relaxing heavy mist; the soft, yet heavy Drench ideal for bathing kids and pets; and Shine, a strong, focused spray perfect for cleaning the tub or shower. The sensible design stops spraying between settings so users aren't surprised by errant shots of water. Easy to install, Twist is available in three finishes. The Eco-Performance model flows at just 2 gallons per minute for water savings.

As the originator of the single-handle faucet, Moen is well-known as one of the top plumbing brands in the U.S. In fact, it's such a popular worldwide brand that in Canada (where the company ranks No. 1 in marketshare) homeowners have been known to call their faucet a "Moen." The company is also seeing impressive growth in China where it has a corporate-owned and operated manufacturing facility that produces fixtures just for the Chinese market and has plans to open as many as 100 Moen showrooms.

"We have nothing like that here in the U.S.," says Andrea Maher, senior marketing communications specialist of the Chinese showroom concept. "It really speaks to the interest in our products abroad. We've been in China for more than 10 years, and it's so interesting to see how different the aesthetic is there — very modern, all chrome — compared to the traditional designs we're used to."

One thing the company does have in the U.S. is it headquarters in North Olmsted, Ohio, complete with a state-of-the-art design and testing facility. The Moen staff recently gave REMODELING a tour of the facility, sharing insight into how new products come to life.
