This Universal Designed Kitchen Remodel Has Everybody Cooking

Maneuverability was limited in the old kitchen.

Working in the same footprint, the designer created a more user-friendly space, by flipping the island and relocating a door to create a long wall for appliances.

The old kitchen was cut in half by the island.

The new kitchen ran the island down the center of the room, and put the sink and cooktop on the long wall on lifts for maximum flexibility.

The bilevel island works for both seated and standing users.

The new side-door opening oven makes it much easier for a seated user to operate.

A pantry was demolished to create more usable space with plenty of drawers for storage.

The old cabinets were replaced with painted wood custom made units, and the vinyl floors replaced with prefinished wood, which holds up well to wheelchair traffic.
