Ohio State's Solar House I

From its barn siding to its locally sourced materials, OSU's Solar Decathlon entry channels the Buckeye State inside and out.

Ohio State’s Solar Decathlon house features cladding reclaimed from a local barn; glass on four sides brings in natural light.

Louvered panels covering the windows on opposite sides of the house swing open in colder months to bring in additional light and radiant heat.

Windows above the kitchen naturally light the work area. Appliances include Whirlpool’s 28-inch white-on-white refrigerator, KitchenAid’s Architect II drawer dishwasher, and Wolf’s 30-inch induction cooktop.

The open floor plan of the home’s interior is designed to sell Ohioans on the concepts of flexible space. Among the room's modular features are a table, chairs, and a couch that fold up to slide into slots in the entertainment unit.
