Kentucky Home

With a linear layout common to many homes in the region, the Blue house promotes ventilation and abundant light. Solar energy is collected through panels on the roof and front façade; solar-thermal evacuated tubes also are located on the front of the house. Clerestory windows around the perimeter bring in light and ventilation.

When lit, perforations in the cement fiberboard cladding evoke Kentucky’s landscape of rolling fields and horse fences.

The eight-seat dining table rolls onto its side, the legs fold down, and then the unit slides into the wall behind the kitchen.

Eight chairs fold completely flat to hang on the wall when not in use; the concept was inspired by Shakers, but modernized to blend with the home’s design.
