Honorable Mention: Elegant Entryway

This small project/detail category winner shines for its creative solution to an entryway challenge.

The judges said the simple and elegant design of the new staircase is deceiving because it requires significant structural bracing.

The steel I-column on the lower landing carries the load of the upper structure. The glass rail continues down to the floor and frames the “sculptural form” of the stairs.

Architect Mark English designed a double-height entry with a bridge. The flooring and treads are white oak.
