A charming Victorian home gets a revamp and improved connection to the garden.

Arkin Tilt improved the home's livability and efficiency and connected it to the outdoors, while maintaining a Victorian charm.

BEFORE: The nearly 100-year-old Victorian farmhouse had good bones, but over the years poor remodeling choices left it with little charm and "thermally challenged."

The original rafters in the kitchen are exposed and topped with salvaged fir bleacher seating. A south-facing clerestory brings light deep into the space.

With exposed fir framing and clay plastered walls, the spacious dining room is the new social focus of the house. The custom dining table was created from salvaged bowling lane.

The new dining area opens out to the garden via folding doors. The deep porch shades it from hot afternoon summer sun.
