A Bristol, Wis., man and woman were arrested in May for having used online sites to scam customers into fake home remodeling services.
The couple is accused of having taken thousands of dollars for home improvement projects that were never done. In many instances, customers gave the couple a 50% deposit to begin work in a few weeks. Yet, as the time approached for the projects to begin, many scammed customers say that the check would be cashed and the company's website and ad on Craigslist gone, with no completed work on site. In some instances, victims lost between $800 and $3,000. The couple used at least eight different business names to prey on homeowners.
