A good mudroom is necessary for keeping salt, slush, and all of the wet, winter gear away from the home. Builder Magazine looks at what makes a winter-ready mudroom.

Elissa Morgante of Evanston, Ill.-based architecture and interior design firm Morgante Wilson Architects, allows homeowners to have everything on hand no matter the temperature. It is important too to have plenty of storage space in a mudroom to store winter outerwear during off season.

Another benefit to a mudroom is that it provides a buffer zone between the inside and outside world which helps “keep main floors clean from what residents and their pets track in” as Kinzie Builders told Builder Magazine.
