As Remodeling Magazine noted in its annual Cost vs. Value report, putting money into a home’s exteriors can add value into a home. Builder Magazine senior editor Jennifer Goodman argues that just even sprucing up an entry door can add upward of $18K or more to a home’s worth. Remodeling’s Cost vs. Value report found that a grand entrance can recoup nearly 70% of value to a home’s resale.

Goodman highlights a recent report by door manufacturer Therma-Tru which found that a nice entry door was found to pay an average of 4.2% to enhance a home’s curb appeal.

The respondents, homeowners in various regions of the country who had shopped for or purchased a new home in the last 3 to 5 years, were divided into two sample groups. They were shown images of enhanced or unenhanced homes in various architectural styles. Each group was also shown images of the same control homes.
