People's pets have risen in prominence in American households over the last 10 years. Never before have we seen dogs get their own day cares and spas. Zumper, a real estate listing and data company, has scored which cities in the U.S. have the best living arrangements for residents' furry friends.

Of the 95 cities in the data set, St. Petersburg, Fla. came in at No. 1, which Zumper attributes to the city's high listings of cat-friendly residences as well as a dense population of veterinarians, pet stores, and pet-friendly restaurants.

Portland, Ore. came in at No. 3 with the highest number of dog parks per capita at 5.4 per 100,000 residents. Cities at the bottom of the list included Detroit, Memphis, and El Paso.
