Houzz contributor Becky Harris takes us on a tour of this updated Texas home fit for a young family. Designer Marie Flanigan repurposed rooms to make the home “lighter, bright, and more welcoming.” Flanagan added new spaces by adding built-in storage for toys and media and placing elegant light fixtures throughout the home. Flanagan also used “warm and light” neutrals to accentuate the wood accents throughout the home. White fixtures, paint, and furniture give the home a nice clean finish.

To make the home’s floor plan work better for the family, Flanigan flipped a few rooms around. This room used to be the formal dining room but now serves as a study. It is next to the great room and kitchen. In here she replaced the existing ornate fireplace surround with a more streamlined one, made of vintage travertine.
