With a 21.5 inch LCD touchscreen, Samsung on May 5 announced its latest appliance in smart home kitchen technology. The Family Hub Refrigerator’s biggest selling points is that it allows you, through a smartphone app, to see what is in the fridge while groccery shopping.

The Family Hub Refrigerator allows families to organize and manage their food with three tiny, high-quality cameras inside the refrigerator that instantly capture an image each time the fridge door opens. This way, families can keep track of what foods they do and don’t have and their corresponding expiration dates.

To keep a family organized, the touchscreen includes applications such as StickiBoard, which allows multiple calendars, photos, and notes to be display on the screen; and WhiteBoard, which allows families to write and draw notes to one another. The screen also lets one display daily photos, check the weather through the AccuWeather app, and surf the internet through a fully functional web browser.

In a press release, John Herrington, senior vice president and general manager of home appliances for Samsung, said, "The refrigerator was once viewed simply as a place to cool and store food. In time, it became the center of the home and the family bulletin board, where families shared notes, photos, and artwork, and kept shopping lists. We saw an opportunity to introduce a refrigerator that redefines the category--a refrigerator that goes beyond storage and one that brought the center of your kitchen into the digital age."
