Remodelers facing a March 31 deadline on an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refresher training on lead can complete the training online.

2015 NAHB Remodelers Chair Robert Criner met with White House Office of Management and Budget officials to request a simpler recertification profess for NAHB members and others who do work on homes that may contain lead paint.

The rule will apply in states where EPA administers the Lead Renovation Repair and Painting rule, minus the 14 states that administer their own program.

With the March 31 recertification deadline looming for many remodelers, and thousands more later in 2016 and 2017, Criner had asked OMB officials to expedite their review. The final rule also eliminates the requirement that firms, training providers and contractors be certified or accredited in each EPA-administered jurisdiction where they work.
