Ted Cushman, senior editor at our sister site The Journal of Light Construction, reports on how the recent floods in Louisiana have caused upwards of $8 billion in damages according to state officials. According to KLFY News 10, there are an additional 109,000 housing units damaged, and nearly 20,000 businesses in the state that have been impacted by the flooding. With little to no recovery effort in sight, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards met with members of Congress last week asking for $2 billion from the Community Development Block Grant in funds to help rebuild the state.
Congressional leaders must vote today, September 14, on a measure to provide funding for the state due to the upcoming presidential election. Otherwise, the state would have to wait until November, after the presidential election.
