Toledo, Ohio residents are still at risk of lead paint from lead paint and lead paint dust in homes that were built prior to 1978. In 2014, Toledo Blade Medical Editor, Marlene Harris-Taylor, writes that there were 5,241 children younger than 6 were tested for lead poisoning in Lucas County.
Of those tested, 241 children were confirmed to have blood levels of more than 5 micrograms of lead in their blood. Lead paint exposure continues to be a problem because of the lack of affordable housing options that are free of lead contaminants. As you move forward in remodeling projects, continue to be aware of the harmful side affects of using lead paint.
