Kitchen desks aren't as popular as they used to be because now the most popular devices are mobile, according to Judy Mozen, president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry and founder of Handcrafted Homes.

"More families want to be centered in the kitchen," Mozen told WXIA in Atlanta. "With cell phones and tablets, we don't sit at a desk anymore."

With the advent of interconnected devices like bluetooth speakers and smart home lights and thermostats, homeowners are looking more towards automation to keep their phones connected to their homes.
