While lead paint was banned in 1978, it is safe to say that many older homes in Kansas City, Mo,. still have lead paint on their exteriors or in their windows.
Kansas City, like many other cities across the country, has received federal government funding for programs aimed to alert residents of lead exposure. That city was granted more than $3 million for its Safe KC Program and is on the verge of getting another $400,000 to expand. The program is free for Kansas City residents who meet income guidelines. If they qualify, residence can get a new paint job or even new windows.
