Are remodelers going to be renovating basments and turning them into IMAX theaters soon? That's the theory behind Imax Private Theaters which, according to Bloomberg, is targeting high end clients in China and the Middle East with home theaters that provide the same quality as going out to the local cinema. This is strictly for high-end buyers, the set-top box alone runs $10,000, but comes with the added benefit of showing new releases at home. The size of the home theaters vary drastically, but are set to expand into the US soon:

The basic system is the "Palais" setup, for theaters up to 75 square meters, at a cost of $400,000—a price on par with a new Bentley in China. The set-top box and film rentals cost extra. An even bigger “Platinum” system accommodates up to 40 guests and costs about $1 million. Sales of both systems are expanding into North America and Europe, according to Imax.\
