In the new year, homeowners are opting towards transitional kitchens, according to Kaminskiy Design and Remodeling, which reviews kitchen trends. Based in San Diego, Kaminskiy Design and Remodeling notes that transitional kitchens “blend elements of traditional and contemporary kitchens” which incorporate modern elements with more traditional interior design. This is evident in the trend of farmhouse sinks (a.k.a. apron sinks) which become the centerpiece of a kitchen due to their size and traditional look.
Kaminskiy Design highlights that choosing white, black, or gray colors for kitchens, while not really new concepts, “still figure strongly into this year’s trends, simply because of their versatility.”
Kaminskiy points out other trends in kitchens such as the use of slide-out shelving that makes use of available space, and hardwood flooring as an alternative to tile and laminating.
