This major basement renovation transformed a gloomy San Francisco basement to a modern space with a kitchenette, an office, entertainment room, and more.
A new foundation had to be installed while the house was suspended on cribbing, Houzz's Julie Sheer notes. The project also required "extensive demolition, excavation, and drainage."
"The finished project offers smooth transitions between the home’s upper level and the newly renovated garden level, as well as to the outside patio area," Sheer writes. "And the space no longer feels like a basement — a primary requirement of the clients."
The outcome won building Lab a 2016 Remmies award (NARI) for best basement renovation over $100,000.
