Here's what spending nearly $26,000 ultimately got the mayor of Glendale, Ariz.: A door without doorknobs that's barricaded by a file cabinet.
That, plus press coverage and controversy over the attempt by Mayor Jerry Weiers to expand his office suite into a conference room next door. The extra space was for a newly hired assistant. "But when faced with blowback from other City Council members, Weiers ceded the room back to the city clerk in May," the Arizona Republic's AZCentral site reported.
All told, the project costs $25,778 for the construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction. The story added:
Weiers blamed the majority of the cost of the flawed renovation on politics. ... “I’m just saying it’s politics. I’m not going to get into a situation where I’m blaming other people for anything. It’s just politics. It’s the way it is,” Weiers said. "I try to do the right thing, you know, and just keep moving forward."
