Our sister site Custom Home explores how a 70s home in Camano Island, Wash., now exists as a standout beach getaway thanks to Designs Northwest Architects.

The existing house was built with an unattractive mansard roof and had small windows that didn’t take advantage of its fabulous waterfront setting. The structural bones of the house were solid and the arrangement of the interior spaces functioned well for the client’s needs, but they wanted to modernize the aesthetic and open up the interiors to the water and mountain views to the east.
