During its annual conference earlier this month, the Stairbuilders and Manufacturers Association (SMA) announced the winners of its StairCraft Awards. The awards “recognize the finest staircase projects in the U.S. and Canada.” The People’s Choice awards were chosen by the public-at-large, while the Members’ choice categories were judged by peers via a ballot that was circulated only to stair industry professionals that are members of SMA.
This year there were 44 entries in 15 categories of competition which were judged on the criteria of: aesthetic value, stair safety, quality of workmanship, and technical challenge. Overwhelmingly, NK Woodworking, based in Seattle, won in the Member’s Choice category.
