In order to combat the harmful effects of lead exposure to kids, Maine’s state legislature has announced the implementation of a new law. The law will lower the threshold of acceptable lead exposure from 15 micrograms per deciliter to 5 micrograms per deciliter. This threshold was adopted by the Centers for Disease Control in 2012. The law also allows state officials to enforce a fine of $500 a day against landlords that don’t follow led abatement orders.
