When Houston Neal, director of marketing at HVAC Software Advice, heard about the Home Star bill that passed in the Senate, he knew the company’s clients would want to know more. The bill is more commonly known as Cash for Caulkers. The online company, based in Austin, provides free consultations to help contractors choose construction-related software. The company uses a blog to keep clients apprised of industry-related news.
Neal read the House of Representatives version of the bill (HR 5019), which passed in May 2010. “I went through each retrofit they listed and picked out the requirements and rebate amounts,” he says. He created a table of the 13 types of retrofits eligible for funding. The table is a guide to the House of Representatives bill—the Senate version is still pending, so the table will likely have revisions. There are no immediate plans for a Senate vote.
