About a year ago, when the economy slowed, Gordon Marble, owner of Marble Ventures, in Ogden, Utah, began having trouble collecting payments on the projects done by his bath and kitchen retrofitting company. He chose Pre-Paid Legal Services to help him collect unpaid bills.
“I used them as a legal service for advice and counsel without paying exorbitant private practice attorney fees,” the remodeler says. Headquartered in Ada, Okla., Pre-Paid Legal has “provider attorneys from every state or region” in the U.S. and Canada, says Lori Fouts, PPL., an independent associate with the company. Attorneys are well-compensated and knowledgeable in all areas of the law. Fouts adds, “We are to attorney fees what major medical is to hospital and doctor bills.”
For a monthly fee based on business size (as low as $75 per month for a company with fewer than 50 employees) clients have access to unlimited legal advice, consultation, and phone calls, as well as a specified number of document reviews, and activities such as sending debt-collection letters.
Marble has, for example, received legal advice on business law, taxes, and human resources issues. And it’s a benefit not having office staff trying to track down errant clients; attorneys often get better results.
