After Hurricane Isabel ripped through the Virginia Peninsula in 2003, employees at R.A. Jones Inc. Building and Remodeling realized that they could do more to be prepared in the event of a major storm. “We developed storm-preparation guidelines, which address the areas we experienced difficulties with immediately after Hurricane Isabel,” says Jody Jones, controller for the Newport News, Va., company. “Now, when a major storm is in the forecast, the storm-preparation guidelines are reviewed with the office staff and production department.”

Not only is the company prepared, but the proactive steps have also enabled R.A. Jones to be ready to serve its customers and community during a major storm. “All of us remodelers need to take action to prepare for the worst in the case of bad weather,” Jones says. “Our customers need us to be ready to take care of them.”
