By Katy Tomasulo. The truck of your dreams is coming to a town near you. For the second year in a row, Tools of the Trade magazine, a sister publication of Remodeling, has teamed up with Ford, Porter-Cable, DrillDoctor, and other sponsors to develop and build the Site Commander II, an ultimate work truck chock-full of unique storage, high-tech tools, and cool gadgets designed specifically with the contractor in mind.

The Site Commander II is built around a Ford commercial-line F-450 crew cab, with a 7.3-liter PowerStroke turbo diesel engine, dual rear wheels, and dual alternators. Several space-maximizing features are incorporated into the truck, including an A.R.E. Deluxe Commercial cap, an Omaha Standard service utility body designed specifically for the tools and equipment on the truck, and a double-decker roll-out bed-storage system from X-Tender Drawer. In addition, the truck tows a 16-foot ToolTrailer rolling workshop with storage and built-in table and miter saws.

A toolhound's dream, the truck comes with more than 40 tools, including an array of corded and cordless tools from Porter-Cable, RoboToolz laser tools, and a bit sharpening system from Drill Doctor. A Porter-Cable 10,000-watt generator, SiteBoss compressor, and ReelCraft power and air reels roll out from the truck's side compartment.

The mobile office within the truck cab features the wireless Rovenet Mobile Communications Suite, which allows users to store and access construction documents, customize them from a PDA, and send wireless faxes on company letterhead.

The Site Commander II features a Ford F-450 truck, a 16-foot ToolTrailer rolling workshop, and a mobile office in the cab.

While most truck owners can never expect to have all of the Site Commander's features, the truck should inspire a few ideas. And one lucky winner will drive off with the real thing. The Site Commander II is touring the country and will be passing through Las Vegas, Denver, Portland, Ore., San Francisco, and other cities during the next few months.
