Kitchens are often a top priority for buyers when choosing their new home. PulteGroup’s Interior Designs Team presents five key kitchen design trends for 2016 that they're utilizing in Pulte homes now. The must-haves for today's consumers are ones that improve both beauty and functionality.

“Today’s homebuyers are willing to spend more in the kitchen – from energy-efficient appliances to quartz countertops,” says Janice Jones, PulteGroup’s national vice president of interior design, which effectively acts as one of the largest design shops in the nation with 33 design professionals. “We continuously conduct consumer focus groups to best understand what they want in their kitchens and are constantly refining our kitchen designs and its elements to ensure it delivers on functionality, creative design and easy maintenance across all our buyer groups.”

Bold and oversized decorative lighting adds a dramatic flair to kitchens, especially over the kitchen island. Consumers also love to personalize space, so adding glass doors to some of the cabinets will allow them to display some of their favorite dishware. Storage is also key in kitchens, and double-stacked cabinets extend the ceiling to provide more room. Consumers would also rather have more drawers and less doors in their kitchens. Finally, mixed materials create a dynamic kitchen--mixed marbles and metals highlight gray wood tones and create a unique contrasted style.
