Most replacement contractors specialize in windows, doors, siding, roofing, or gutters, but increasingly this category includes interior jobs such as shower or bath liners (now about 2% of the total bathroom remodeling market) and kitchen cabinet refacing.

The replacement business requires continuous lead generation and the ability to consistently convert leads to sales. Because job size is relatively small, volume is high, and a rapid sales-to-completion timeline is key to success.

Leading the pack is Window World, with sales of almost $372 million, followed by Champion Windows, at almost $317 million. But smaller companies also perform well. Yankee Home Improvement, a newcomer to the list, grew from $1.4 million in 2009 to $2.5 million in 2010. Owner Ger Ronan projects 2011 sales of $5 million to $6 million, and credits that growth to continuing sales training and the fact that reps are armed with technology they can use to wow customers.
