As one of the first design/build remodelers in Brooklyn, N.Y., Amber Mazor knew he needed to educate clients. He rented space in Brooklyn Heights, known for its historic brownstones. He thought that if he had an office that was as accessible as the public library, people would "swing by.” He was right. “We get a lot of street traffic,” he says.
The company also reaches out with its “Art for Kids” booth at the community flea market and with other activities such as its donation of colorful tile to a school, from which the students created a mosaic wall. The remodeler then followed up by hosting an event for the school at its office. Various staff members at the company also give public lectures on design/build methods, which, Mazor says, “People find useful, [since] in historic buildings there is a constant challenge to combine modern elements with old architectural details.”
