Dave Peters is one of those home builders who remodelers complain about. Before opening Lone Star State Construction  with his brothers, Peters’ career focused on custom homes for the ultra-rich. His long background in construction also includes work for tract builder Pulte Homes.

Managing big, expensive jobs made Peters mindful that “there’s an issue on every job. It’s how you deal with it that makes you what you are.” He manages issues with a 45-minute daily meeting where every manager goes over his jobs and alerts Peters as to whether or not he needs to be there that day. Every Friday, Lone Star project superintendents use their iPads to take pictures and video of their jobs. The iPads are also instrumental in Lone Star’s change order process.

In the last few years, Angie’s List  — 23 Super Service awards in 2010 — has supplied the biggest portion of Lone Star State’s business.
