The cornerstone of JMC Development’s business for the past decade has been its line of “prix fixe” bathrooms, according to company president John G. MacDougall. “While we advertise a standard bathroom for $8,500, once the client comes into the showroom they find upgrades they want and end up spending more,” he says. “This works well because our design is done in-house.”

JMC has a team approach to selling; MacDougall will visit the client’s home and talk about what could be done and then schedules a visit with one of the company’s two full-time designers who essentially close the sale. While marketing efforts on the radio, in print, and via direct mail have fizzled, MacDougall credits JMC’s satisfied customers and their vocal support online for the company’s continued success. “We’ve got stellar reviews on Angie’s List, and those people are like a cult!” he says.
