When it comes to marketing, second-generation owner Loren Schirber likes to try new things. He has had success with local newspaper inserts that include large color photos and prices. “Ultimately,” he says, “with falling home prices, Home Depot is my competitor.”
He also has waded into social media with his blog and website and has participated in Groupon, a daily coupon deal, to bring in new clients. Schirber expects more than 1,000 leads this year.
During the downturn Schirber spent more on marketing and played up his “Three Guarantees”: on-time completion or Castle pays the customer; lifetime warranty on workmanship; and a no unforeseen change order guarantee.
Castle Building & Remodeling, which is diversifying with a new special projects/handyman division — for flooring, landscaping, and baths — continues to grow as a design/build firm since opening a second showroom in St. Paul. Castle already sells flooring and carpeting directly, and Schirber wants to increase the value he provides customers by purchasing direct in more product categories.
